Aratek adds more security and integration features to A600 fingerprint scanner and A600-M module

Aratek recently announced major upgrades to two of its best-selling fingerprint biometric products, the A600 fingerprint scanner and its core component, the A600-M fingerprint module.

The A600 scanner now comes equipped with an advanced Match-On-Device (MOD) mode that heightens security by performing the entire fingerprint recognition process including image capture, extraction of minutiae and matching with stored fingerprint — all within the scanner itself.

The new MOD feature, an addition to the existing match-on-host mode, eliminates the need to transfer data to a host device. With the data never leaving the sensor, a much more secure authentication is assured. Used in conjunction with other security features such as the Live Finger Detection (LFD) system that prevents spoofing and the AES-256 Encryption that gives stored data iron-clad protection, the MOD feature elevates the security of A600 fingerprint scanner to best-in-class status.

The A600-M gets additional communication interfaces and now supports UART (TTL 115200bps default), USB 1.1 / 2.0, and SPI (Slave 3.3V), making it even easier to integrate into OEMs. The A600-M also gets a big security boost as it now comes with top-shelf AES-256 Encryption which locks down the stored fingerprint data and protects it from any possible attack while in-transit from the fingerprint module or scanner to the external matcher and host OS. Along with the model’s existing Live Finger Detection system, the strikingly stronger encryption gives the enhanced A600-M unprecedented security.

Both the A600 and A600-M are listed in FBI PIV, Mobile ID FAP 20 and STQC certified devices, and have been a fixture in a vast number of applications across different industries such as national ID, law enforcement, border security, finance and health care etc.

“This latest refresh of the feature set of the popular A600 and A600-M characterizes Aratek’s relentless push for innovation and our total commitment to digital security,” said Samuel Wu, Aratek’s vice president for International Business Division.

Wu added that the upgrade is expected to drive even more strongly the adoption of the A600 and A600M into new applications that call for superior biometric identification and authentication technology that addresses the ever-escalating need for digital security.
